Baseball: City Section major leaguers approaching 300

October 13, 2011 | 12:00 pm

Los Angeles-based researcher Richard Obrand says there have been close to 300 ex-City Section baseball players from the Los Angeles Unified School District who have reached the major leagues, far more than any other school district in the country.

If Granada Hills graduate Ryan Braun of the Milwaukee Brewers wins the National League MVP award, joining former Granada Hills graduate John Elway, who won the NFL MVP award, Granada Hills would join San Mateo Serra as one of the few high schools to produce NFL and baseball MVPs. Serra is where Tom Brady and Barry Bonds went to school.
