Another big week ahead in prep football

October 9, 2011 |  8:56 am

Just when you think all the big games have taken place in prep football, there's another week of titanic matchups ahead.

League play gets under way for most schools, and league championships could be decided in the opening games.

Long Beach Poly faces Lakewood at Veterans Stadium on Friday night in a Moore League title decider. Huntington Beach Edison takes on Los Alamitos at Huntington Beach on Thursday night in a likely Sunset League title decider.

In the Mission League, unbeaten St. Paul, ranked No. 1 in the Western Division, travels to take on West Hills Chaminade on Friday. In the South Coast League, unbeaten San Clemente faces a stiff test from host Trabuco Hills. In the Baseline League, unbeaten Upland takes on Etiwanda at Ontario Colony.

Then, of course, there's the league openers in the Serra and Trinity Leagues. On Friday in the Serra League, it's Sherman Oaks Notre Dame at Encino Crespi and Mission Hills Alemany at La Puente Bishop Amat. On Friday in the Trinity League, it's No. 1 Anaheim Servite playing unbeaten Orange Lutheran at Cerritos College. On Thursday, it's unbeaten Santa Margarita facing Santa Ana Mater Dei at Santa Ana Stadium.

In the City Section, Woodland Hills El Camino Real hasn't beaten Woodland Hills Taft since 1991 and will host the Toreadors in a West Valley League opener on Friday. In the Northern League, Marshall plays at Franklin.
