Funeral is Thursday for ex-Verbum Dei star Lewis Brown

A funeral will be held Thursday at noon at the St. Albert the Great Church in Compton for former Los Angeles Verbum Dei standout Lewis Brown, who died last Wednesday of a heart attack. He was 56.

The 6-foot-11 Brown was the Southern Section 4-A player of the year in 1972 and 1973 at Verbum Dei, which won three consecutive championships.

Brown had been living on the streets of Hollywood for 10 years.
