Newhall Hart Coach Mike Herrington had never started a freshman on varsity, so when he said early in the summer that freshman receiver Trent Irwin could be the first, people took notice.

And in his first varsity game against Tesoro, Irwin caught two touchdown passes.

Even baseball Coach Jim Ozella was impressed. ‘He’s the real deal,’ said Ozella, who hasn’t been asked yet to join the football team as an assistant coach.
