Ten of the 11 schools in the Trinity and Serra Leagues are ranked in The Times’ top 25. The only school missing is JSerra, and the Lions should be 2-0 after this weekend.

Unfortunately, only six of the 11 teams are going to qualify for the Pac-5 Division playoffs, which is going to leave some alumni very frustrated.

There are no at-large berths in the Pac-5. Next season, there will be a new playoff format, with the opportunity for more than six schools from the Trinity and Serra to make the playoffs.

So that means once league play begins, it’s going to be a brutal, all-out battle every week trying to survive and gain one of the three playoff berths for each league.

Good luck trying to predict which schools will eventually qualify. The only certainty is there will be overtime games, so teams better get their kickers prepared.

Meanwhile, teams from the Trinity and Serra can beat up on their nonleague opponents in preparation for the big games ahead.
