Football: No time to celebrate for Loyola

September 24, 2011 | 10:21 am

I hope Loyola players and fans had a good night sleep after their 28-14 win over Bellflower St. John Bosco, because the time for celebrating is over.

Yes, the Cubs are 4-0, but look who's waiting to face them on Friday night. It's unbeaten Upland (4-0), which crushed Norco, 54-27.

Playing strong opponents will prepare the Cubs for the Serra League, but it makes the coaches have to work that much harder.

Loyola needs to get back running back Wyatt Bradford (sprained ankle). He went down in the second quarter against St. John Bosco and wasn't allowed to return.

One weapon for the Cubs was punter Conrad Ukropina, who boomed a 55-yard punt to get his team out of trouble and was consistently putting the ball into the end zone on kickoffs. He did miss a field goal, which makes him 0-for-4 this season. That drought should end soon.

Upland has a terrific offense, with a great receiver in Kenny Lawler.
