There’s no clear-cut favorite to win the City Section Division I championship, but more information should come out after this weekend’s games.

In an important nonleague encounter, Garfield is playing Dorsey at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Garfield is 0-2; Dorsey is 2-0. Both teams haven’t been particularly good on offense, so it could be a defensive struggle. The team that wins will receive renewed respect as a playoff contender.

Narbonne gets to take on Long Beach Poly at Veterans Stadium. Coach Manuel Douglas’ goal is for his team to make weekly improvement so that by game 14, the Gauchos are playing for the Division I title and ready to win it.

Crenshaw is 0-2 but ready to take off against Banning. Watch the Cougars’ offense come alive.

San Pedro started with a win over West Adams and gets to play another Coliseum League foe in Locke. The Pirates don’t get the attention of Narbonne and Carson, but they are a team not to take lightly.
