I have a hard time remembering a tougher, better middle linebacker in high school football than Butch Pauu of Servite.

He was making tackle after tackle and leading throughout in his team’s 20-0 victory over Oceanside.

The Friars just don’t give up big plays. An opponent has to be very patient on offense, and Oceanside couldn’t make big plays. This is a much better Oceanside team than last year. The Pirates’ secondary really did a good job shutting down Servite’s passing attack.

Servite’s offensive line and running backs showed good potential.

But to me, Pauu is the player who makes things happen for Servite. I don’t understand why USC and UCLA didn’t offer him a scholarship. He’s headed to Brigham Young, and he’s going for his third consecutive Pac-5 Division title.
