On Sundays this summer, I’m presenting my favorite videos from those I’ve shot over the last three years and telling the back story.

I’ve never met a student quite like Jeremiah Allison of Los Angeles Dorsey. I had seen him speak at a news conference when City Section sports were suffering budget cutbacks. But then I went to Dorsey last year to speak with him about academics, football and making it in life, and I was impressed by his confidence, maturity and determination.

In the last two seasons, he has recorded 42 sacks as a defensive end. He’s finally a senior, playing linebacker, with several scholarship offers. But it’s his understanding of the importance of education that makes him someone to look up to. He insists he can become a lawyer and a football player.
