Servite has hired alumnus John Morris to replace Tim Kelly as its boys’ basketball coach on an interim basis for the 2011-12 season, the school announced.

Morris, a former three-sport athlete who graduated from Servite in 2001, had spent four seasons as a varsity assistant. He replaces Kelly, who is pursuing an advanced degree in Catholic school administration.

‘John Morris is a passionate coach who truly cares about the young men of Servite,’ Servite President Pete Bowen said in a statement. ‘We feel that Coach Morris will achieve success given his commitment to his players, the school and the basketball program.’

Morris earned a bachelor’s degree in human communications from Cal State Fullerton.

‘I am very excited for the opportunity to give back to my alma mater as head basketball coach, and to continue forming the student-athletes in the basketball program,’ Morris said in a statement.
