Baseball: JSerra's Austin Hedges signs with San Diego Padres

JSerra catcher Austin Hedges has signed with the San Diego Padres for a reported $3 million, forgoing an opportunity to play for UCLA. The Bruins also lost out on pitcher Joe Ross, who signed with the Padres, and infielder Tyler Goeddel, who signed with Tampa Bay.

Two pitchers who competed for UCLA won't be coming back: junior right-hander Gerrit Cole, the first overall draft selection who agreed to terms with Pittsburgh, and junior left-hander Mitchell Beacom, a 20th-round selection who signed with the San Francisco Giants.
