Sundays with Sondheimer: The Matt Cassel Story

On Sundays this summer, I’m presenting my favorite videos from those I’ve shot over the last three years and telling the back story.

Last winter, Matt Cassel returned to his alma mater, Chatsworth High, to have his uniform number retired. It was an emotional moment for him and those who had watched him grow up in the San Fernando Valley, from a 12-year-old who played in the Little League World Series to becoming the starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs.

What has always separated Cassel is that he changed very little. He was a fun-loving Little Leaguer and has remained a fun-loving NFL player. And yet, he overcame being a backup for so long in college and in the NFL because of his perseverance.

If you listen to him speak, you’ll understand why friends talk so glowingly about him and coaches admire his loyalty and commitment.
