Football: San Marcos Coach Jeff Hesselmeyer dies

Jeff Hesselmeyer, the football coach at Santa Barbara San Marcos the last two years, was found dead late Friday or early Saturday, according to activities director Aaron Solis. He was 59. Cause of death is unknown.

Hesselmeyer previously coached at Goleta Dos Pueblos and has been well known in the community.

‘Jeff was a great friend and cared so deeply for the kids,’ San Marcos Athletic Director Abe Jahadhmy said in a statement. ‘I knew Jeff for many years and have rarely seen someone so kind. Jeff would give the last dime he had for anyone in need. He is truly special, and I will miss him very much.’
