The City Section won’t have one of the best running backs in Southern California this fall. Jacob Smith of Granada Hills failed to gain academic eligibility, Coach Billy Parra confirmed on Wednesday.

Smith, a senior, played in four games last season before being declared ineligible. He had 171 yards rushing against Sun Valley Poly, 257 yards against Granada Hills Kennedy and 173 yards against Woodland Hills El Camino Real.

He started his career at Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, then transferred to Canyon Country Canyon and has been at Granada Hills trying to work on his academics.
