Gardena Serra makes its summer passing debut on Saturday at the Valley College tournament, and the Cavaliers will get to show off their new quarterbacks, 6-foot-4 junior Ryan Barbarin and 6-1 sophomore Jalen Greene. They are competing to replace Conner Preston.

‘We’re really excited about both,’ Coach Scott Altenberg said.

Barbarin led the Serra junior varsity team to a 10-0 record. Greene led the freshman team to a 10-0 record. Barbarin, who also plays baseball, has a strong arm. Greene is versatile and athletic.

Serra has to replace receivers George Farmer and Marqise Lee, but Raymond Ford is expected to step in besides playing cornerback. He won’t be playing this weekend because he’s in Oregon for a Nike event.
