A year ago, Mission Hills Alemany was a surprise Pac-5 Division semifinalist behind senior quarterback Vernon Adams.

This fall, Alemany looks stronger throughout the team, but there remains uncertainty at the quarterback spot only because junior Devon Dunn takes over for Adams and hasn’t shown what he can do at the varsity level.

But he led Alemany’s junior varsity to a 10-0 record, and he was timed in 4.58 seconds for 40 yards, which means Coach Dean Herrington plans to let Dunn run a little besides pass the ball.

If Dunn can make a successful transition to varsity, Alemany is expected to start 6-0 heading into its Serra League opener against La Puente Bishop Amat on Oct. 14.
