There was some worry from Corona Centennial fans about the quarterback position after the graduation of 6-foot-5 Michael Eubank.

After watching the Huskies on Saturday at the Edison tournament, I can say confidently that the new quarterback, Hayden Gavett, will be another successful passer-runner even though he’s only 5-9.

He was making the throws required in the Centennial offense, and just wait until he gets to run with the pads on. He has outstanding speed, and he’ll be running behind what is expected to be one of the best offensive lines in the Southland.

One of the Centennial linemen, 6-4, 255-pound Cameron Hunt, was at the passing competition, and that’s a good sign that the linemen will have confidence in Gavett, who knows what’s the key to success.

‘It’s the greatest feeling when your best players are your linemen,’ Gavett said.

Centennial made it to the Edison tournament semifinals even though their coach, Matt Logan, didn’t attend because of a family commitment.
