All-City outfielder Raul Camas came through on the mound and third baseman Ernesto Prado contributed several defensive gems to help Chatsworth win the Valley Invitational Baseball League championship on Friday night with a 5-2 win over West Valley League rival El Camino Real at Birmingham.

Camas, a junior making his first start on the mound this summer, allowed two runs in 5 1/3 innings. Three times he struck out El Camino Real’s leading summer hitter, Mason Novak.

Prado came through with the biggest play of the night, starting a double play in the sixth inning to halt an El Camino Real rally after Chris Scalisi had delivered a two-run single. He also had a double to start Chatsworth’s four-run third inning.

Chatsworth played flawless defense. El Camino Real gave up four runs in the third on two errors, two walks and two hit batters.

It was a successful summer for both programs. Chatsworth found some new standouts, including Kiefer Kofman, who went 7-0 on the mound and emerged as a top hitter.

El Camino Real found two promising newcomers in junior pitcher Luke Laurita and sophomore first baseman Hayden Rappoport.
