Track and field: Loyola’s Lee Hightower has second-best long jump

Loyola senior Lee Hightower had the second-longest long jump in the state track meet preliminaries Friday at Clovis Buchanan High, leaping 23 feet 3.25 inches to advance to Saturday’s championships.

His distance was just behind Oceanside El Camino’s Jacob Snow, who had a jump of 23-04.25. Also advancing from the Southern Section to Saturday’s championship were Vista Murrieta’s Jovonte Slater (23-01.75), Diamond Ranch’s Marquise Cherry (23-01.25) and Gardena Serra’s Marquise Lee (22-10.25).
