Sundays with Sondheimer
The summer has arrived, a time we all like to head to the movies. Well, on Sundays this summer I'm going to present my favorite videos from those I've shot the last two years and tell the back story.
First up is a video from last fall about the Carson High football team. Coach Elijah Asante invited me to ride the team bus to the Colts' first game against Santa Ana Mater Dei. There was no guarantee of a Carson success story. In fact, the Colts were the underdog.
What I got to see was a first-year coach already making a difference in the lives of his players. And even more surprising, Carson went out and defeated the Monarchs.
Seeing how the players behaved, reacted and followed their coach was inspiring. It told me these athletes from the City Section were good kids and deserved to be recognized.
Enjoy.

Truth you totally missed the point! I am a parent of a student at Rancho Santa Margarita. I am impressed with what I saw in the video. The discipline, suit and tie, virtue and spirit. I heard the coach say that he is proud to be their coach and thanked them for allowing him to be their coach. I was tickled by his players singing "Just My Imagination" by the Temptations. This video debunked a lot of stereo types about the City Section. Carson has a great mentor as it's head coach!

win championship first. Then try and get some press. Stay out of the press, you aint done anything yet. Last year you took a team full of three year players and beat a mater dei team that was rebuilding early in the year. Then you get blown out n the championship game. Any average coach in the city could have done what you did last year with the experience team you had. But you werent a good enough coach to finish the job with a championship. At a school like carson, crenshaw or dorsey if you dont have a championship win next to yo name as a head coach or coordinator, you are a nobody in the world of city football. Win first, talk later, asante.

Wow! I heard about this video but this is the first time I seen it! The discipline, comradarai and leadership of this Carson Colt team is amazing! This is a Mater Dei team that had USC committs in QB Max Wittek and WR Victor Blackwell. MD was a Pac 5 semi finalist and eliminated LB Poly in the first round! Great Job Carson!
