Boys' basketball: Loyola is as good as advertised
Los Angeles Loyola would probably get my vote for No. 2 in Southern California behind Santa Ana Mater Dei in boys' basketball.
The Cubs, playing without Justin Childress and Julian Harrell, blew out Chatsworth Sierra Canyon, 96-64, on Thursday in a Crespi tournament game. Jacob Hazzard was red-hot from outside, and Parker Cartwright was his usual dynamic self handling the ball.
On June 27, the Fairfax tournament takes place, and hopefully Loyola and Mater Dei will show up with their top players.
One player making improvement is 6-foot-6 Khaliq Bedart-Ghani, who's going to add some rebounding help inside for the Cubs.

@ Mission An up and coming small school who just took CIF in their division in Basketball( Head coach is affiliated with Pump and Run) and just got a state of the art gymnasium built. They have student-athletes transferring into their middle school and high school everyday. Football they lost in the CIF finals.

@ Mission...Sierra Canyon has some talent...two good big men and a good point guard..but look, this Loyola team is RELENTLESS! They are talented..and the night before beat an almost fully loaded Orange Lutheran team...without Cartwright, or Harrell...they are very well coached, fundamentally sound, fast, quick, hard nosed....oh...and the defending CIF Champs...they are scarey good...HW had better play their A game ...every game.... from here forward in order to be prepared to play these guys in the winter....Chaminade, Crespi, Notre Dame and St. Francis better hope the Loyola bus breaks down on the way to their home games, and that the Loyola kids get lost on the way to their own gym...it might be the only chance they have of getting within 25 points of the Cubs....

Sierra Canyon.....That would be the tiny school in Chatsworth that has a "hedge fund " dad who is trying buy HIMSELF a championship. The team is loaded with single and double hold backs! Most of these players were recruited and are older than the school grade that they are actually in!

@ES You should check out the Tuesday Basketball Summer League at Serra. Loyola, Winward, Westchester, Crenshaw, Serra and some other high schools are participating. Very good competition.
