Los Angeles Loyola would probably get my vote for No. 2 in Southern California behind Santa Ana Mater Dei in boys’ basketball.

The Cubs, playing without Justin Childress and Julian Harrell, blew out Chatsworth Sierra Canyon, 96-64, on Thursday in a Crespi tournament game. Jacob Hazzard was red-hot from outside, and Parker Cartwright was his usual dynamic self handling the ball.

On June 27, the Fairfax tournament takes place, and hopefully Loyola and Mater Dei will show up with their top players.

One player making improvement is 6-foot-6 Khaliq Bedart-Ghani, who’s going to add some rebounding help inside for the Cubs.
