Boys' basketball: Bishop Gorman edges Mater Dei

June 26, 2011 |  7:06 am

Despite both teams missing top players, basketball powers Santa Ana Mater Dei and Las Vegas Bishop Gorman put on a show Saturday at the Corona del Mar tournament, with Bishop Gorman winning on a shot by 6-foot-9 Roscoe Allen.

Bishop Gorman didn't have Shabazz Muhammad. Mater Dei was missing Katin Reinhardt and Stanley Johnson, but the Monarchs had Xavier Johnson and the son of new Lakers Coach Mike Brown.

Both schools are headed next winter to the City of Palms Classic in Florida for a possible meeting. Action continues Sunday at Corona del Mar.
