Boys’ basketball: Alemany sophomore scores 28 points

His name is Razhaun ‘Bear’ Henderson, and he’s a 6-foot-3 sophomore basketball player from Mission Hills Alemany who has a bright future.

He scored 28 points on Tuesday in Alemany’s 84-80 victory over Orange Lutheran in a well-played opening game of the Fairfax tournament.

‘Wow. That’s amazing,’ Henderson said of his final point total.

Last season as a freshman, he came off the bench and averaged five points a game.

‘He has really worked on his game,’ Alemany Coach Tray Meeks said. ‘He’s learning. He’ll be a presence in the Mission League.’

Marqueze Coleman scored 17 points and Max Guercy had 16 for Alemany. Orange Lutheran received 25 points from Gabe York, who leaves this week for a recruiting visit to Arizona.

Alemany plays Long Beach Poly or Sherman Oaks Notre Dame in a quarterfinal game on Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
