Boys’ basketball: A big week ahead for fans

This is the week basketball fans can get a sneak preview of the top teams. Most will be in action at tournaments at Fairfax, Westchester or Compton Dominguez. Championship games will be held on Saturday, but it’s best to go to the early games when players are most likely to be in town instead of at camps.

Santa Ana Mater Dei is playing in the Fairfax and Westchester tournaments and has added the sons of new Lakers Coach Mike Brown. The Monarchs open against Campbell Hall and freshman Aaron Holiday on Monday at Fairfax.

Opening schedule at Fairfax on Monday: Crespi vs. Pasadena, 4 p.m.; Fairfax vs. La Canada, 5:30 p.m.; Harvard-Westlake vs. Dorsey, 7 p.m.; Mater Dei vs. Campbell Hall, 8:30 p.m. Tuesday: Orange Lutheran vs. Alemany, 4 p.m.; El Camino Real vs. Loyola, 5:30 p.m.; Oaks Christian vs. Santa Monica, 7 p.m.; Long Beach Poly vs. Notre Dame, 8:30 p.m.

Opening schedule at Westchester on Monday: West Torrance vs. Taft, 2 p.m.; Redondo vs. Palisades, 3:30 p.m. ; Peninsula vs. Washington Prep, 5 p.m; Mater Dei vs. Venice, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday: Windward vs. Morningside, 2 p.m.; St. Bernard vs. Bishop Montgomery, 3:30 p.m. ; Narbonne vs. Serra, 5 p.m. ; Westchester vs. Compton Centennial, 6:30 p.m.

The Dominguez tournament begins Tuesday, with L.A. Price facing Long Beach Jordan in the feature game at 6:40 p.m.
