As a senior left-handed pitcher at Reseda Cleveland in 2008, Chris Reed was a second-team all-West Valley League selection. On Monday, he was the first-round pick of the Dodgers.

Reed is Stanford’s closer and throwing between 92 and 94 mph. He was outstanding in 2007 as a junior at Cleveland. That was the year there were three future first-round draft picks in the league _ Reed, Matt Dominguez (Chatsworth) and Mike Moustakas (Chatsworth).

His velocity was not as good his senior year at Cleveland. At Stanford, he had a 6.10 ERA last season as a sophomore, but last summer, he started developing and became a standout closer.

‘We all knew he had the ability,’ Cleveland Coach Greg Venger said. ‘It’s unbelievable. I’m so happy for him.’
