Baseball: Noe Ramirez is selected by Red Sox

Former Alhambra High pitcher Noe Ramirez, a standout at Cal State Fullerton, was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the fourth round of the amateur draft on Tuesday.

Compton Centennial outfielder Desmond Henry was taken by the Texas Rangers in the fourth round.

Newhall Hart pitcher Tyler Glasnow was the first player taken in the fifth round. Newbury Park pitcher Danny Keller went to the Milwaukee Brewers in the sixth round. North Hollywood Campbell Hall catcher Adam Ehrlich went to the St. Louis Cardinals in the sixth round. Pitcher Scott Barlow of Santa Clarita Golden Valley went to the Dodgers in the sixth round.

Seventh-round selections: First baseman Trevor Gretzky of Westlake Village Oaks Christian (Cubs) and shortstop Christian Lopes of Huntington Beach Edison (Blue Jays). First baseman John Alexander from Glendora was chosen in the eighth round by the Tampa Bay Rays.

In the 10th round, Irvine Woodbridge pitcher Matt Budgell was chosen by the Mets.

In the 12th round, pitcher Kenny Mathews of Diamond Bar went to the Mets. In the 13th round, Westchester pitcher Robert Gsellman was taken by the Mets. The Twins took La Verne Bonita pitcher Adam McCreery in the 14th round.

In the 15th round, the Phillies took Palm Desert outfielder Ryan Garvey. In the 17th round, the Pirates took outfielder Aaron Brown of Chatsworth and theYankees took West Hills Chaminade pitcher Mathew Troupe. Infielder Connor Burke of La Serna went to the Marlins in the 19th round.

Correction: An earlier version of this blog reported Scott Barlow as being chosen in the seventh round. It was the sixth round.
