San Fernando Coach Armando Gomez is promising that he’ll get pitcher David Lira into Saturday’s City Section Division I championship game at Dodger Stadium.

‘He’s going to be our pinch runner,’ Gomez said.

Lira ran out of innings to pitch in a week after throwing 10 innings Wednesday night in a 2-1 victory over El Camino Real. He won’t get to pitch against his former school, Chatsworth, but Gomez said Thursday morning Lira is fine after he had him making 141 pitches.

He said Lira was running around San Fernando’s field Wednesday night after the bus returned from USC.

As for trying to beat nine-time champion Chatsworth without his ace pitcher on the mound, Gomez said, ‘We’ll be all right. We just have to play defense.’
