Track: Private schools take charge at Southern Section finals
It has not gone unnoticed among some public-school coaches that of the eight team championships handed out at Saturday's Southern Section track and field champonships, six were won by private schools.
Only Vista Murrieta in Division 1 boys and Long Beach Poly in Division 1 girls broke up the private-school domination.
More ammunition for the debate whether to separate private and public schools in the playoffs.
-- Eric Sondheimer

No sympathy. Why should private school parents have to pay twice for a decent education? (Once through school taxes, once for tuition)
Despite funding increases, public schools in our area aren't remotely at the average SAT/GPA of either the state in general, or public schools in general, much less the nationwide averages.
Epic fail.

Then split 'em up. Privates play privates, public vs public.

The issue is lack of support to public schools from most parents.
How much funding does private schools get from the state?

It's Title IX. Notice that the only school to win both boys and girls titles was Gardena Serra. Private schools aren't bound by Title IX so they can spend their funds as they please. It is even more apparent with single sex schools.

Agreed mom.
Unfortunately, with the way things are looking financially for the public schools, I think they're going to be in this rut for a very long time.

The issue is lack of funding to public schools. Private schools aren't the bad guys, lack of funding from the state is.

It's never going to change.
Everyone better get used to it.
