Track: City Section prelims set for Thursday at Birmingham

The City Section track and field prelims will take place Thursday at Birmingham, with running events starting at 2 p.m.

The 100-meter dash is usually a highlight, but with Crenshaw’s De’Anthony Thomas not running, it’s a wide-open event. Among those who have qualified for the prelims, Locke’s Devante O’Connor (11.02) should be the favorite, with competition from Verdugo Hills’ Rick Goulsby (10.96), Fairfax’s Terrence Hall (10.97) and Roosevelt’s Jonathan Mariscal (10.98).

Among the top athletes to watch in the girls’ competition is Taft’s Laurie Henigan in the hurdles.

The championships will be held next Thursday at Birmingham.
