After Karyn Wright retired Carson in order in the top of the first inning, El Camino Real scored two runs in the bottom half to take an early lead in the City Section championship game at Cal State Northridge.

Whitney West led off with an infield single, Dylann O’Connor popped out trying to bunt, Dani Gilmore singled and Emily Waterbury walked to load the bases. Cassandra Perez hit a sharp grounder off the glove of first baseman Ramos Viridiana that caromed toward second base and two runners crossed the plate on the error.

The Conquistadores proceeded to load the bases again before Carson pitcher Crystal Maas avoided further damage on a strikeout and a groundout to shortstop.
