Softball: Duarte files protest with Southern Section

The Southern Section is investigating a protest filed by Duarte after a 3-2 softball defeat to Alhambra in a Division 5 first-round playoff game on Thursday, spokesman Thom Simmons said.

Duarte is alleging Alhambra took an illegal batting practice.

Here's a story from the Pasadena Star News.

i hope

i hope Duarte gets the butts handed to them in the next game... they are not a good team and deserve to lose!

TOO HIP

@ get over it....the rotest was filed BEFORE the game...how does that make them bad losers? Had they lost and then filed a protest, then I would agree with you. But the coaches saw something that was illegal, brought it to the attention of the umpires, before the game, as they have a right to do, and now we see how the authorities rule.....name calling simply means you have nothing intelligent to add to the discourse.

@ just saying...would you please just STOP saying....as I am pretty certain that Duarte didn't CHOCKE

get over it

bad losers... is this how your going to win games by lame protests. Don't punish the girls that put hard work and won the game.

Just saying

Duarte lost. Duarte coach should focus on his team and maybe they would not have CHOCKED!

per Steve Ramirez of SGV trib

According to the rule, which is on the CIF-SS website, organized soft toss. - with wiffle balls or softballs/baseballs - is a violation. I think the key is "organized," which by definition is a coach's authorization. And the reason the rule is in place is because the visiting team might have to travel a long distance, and no time to have batting practice, so the rule levels the playing field. But like any law, there are gray areas and thats where CIF-SS comes into play, like a trial court. In most college tournaments, most teams are already in town, so both have time to take pre-game batting practice.
