Softball: City Championship game ready to begin

It’s No. 1 Woodland Hills El Camino Real against No. 2 Carson for the City Section softball championship at Cal State Northridge.

The West Valley League champion Conquistadores (24-4) are led by junior pitcher Karynn Wright (24-3) and junior outfielders Dylann O’Connor and Whitney West. El Camino Real beat Los Angeles Bell, San Fernando and San Pedro to the reach the finals.

The Marine League champion Colts (26-3) are led by senior pitcher Crystal Maas (18-2) and junior shortstop Darian Tautalafua, who is tied for the state lead with 15 home runs. Carson beat Reseda Cleveland, Wilmington Banning and Los Angeles Marshall to reach the finals.

This is the first meeting between the schools in the finals since El Camino Real beat Carson 3-0 in 1999.

El Camino Real has won six straight games and Carson has won 12 in a row, including seven shutouts.

The national anthem has been played and the first pitch is moments away. Carson is the visiting team and will bat first.
