Jonathan Sanders attends tiny New Community Jewish High School in West Hills, but he has proven himself to be a big-time golfer. He’s only a junior and has committed to Washington. On Monday, he led all qualifiers in the Northern Regional of the Southern Section individual championships with a one-under 70 at Las Posas Country Club.

The top 30 individuals qualify for next Monday’s Southern Section individual finals at Industry Hills Golf Course. Thomas Lim of Moorpark finished with a 71.

Sanders is related to the late William Harmatz, a jockey who rode the winner in the 1959 Preakness Stakes. Sanders’ mother is the neice of Harmatz.
