Football: Mission Viejo is site for six-game extravaganza
Mission Viejo High will be the site this fall for a six-game football showcase scheduled for Sept. 2 and 3. It will be called the Mission Viejo High School Football Classic.
The host Diablos will play Bakersfield Centennial on Sept. 2. Cypress will play Bakersfield Garces.
On Sept. 3, the matchups include Los Angeles Crenshaw facing Sandy (Utah) Alta, Westlake Village Oaks Christian playing Wash. Bellevue, Orange Lutheran taking on South Jordan (Utah) Bingham and Bakersfield playing Provo (Utah) Timpview.

As much as I dislike the MV program, simply based on the rivalry, this is a brilliant idea, and long overdue. I've often felt that an OC/SD showcase would be outstanding as well. The best 5 or 6 teams from SD against the best 5 or 6 from OC, with split venues north and south. That would be a great way to start the high school season.
