Long-time Simi Valley boys’ basketball Coach Christian Aurand announced Thursday he has stepped down as coach. Aurand, one of the most respected and best coaches in Ventura County, was head coach for 12 years and has been at Simi Valley for 19 years. He had a 250-95 record.

He said he wants to spend more time with his 9-year-old son and also look at new challenges. He also intends to keep coaching travel basketball.

A leading candidate to replace Aurand is junior varsity Coach Ryan Bradshaw, who played at Simi Valley and is the son of former Simi Valley Coach Dean Bradshaw.

‘It’s been a great run,’ Aurand said.
