How Simi Valley is staying alive in the Southern Section Divsion 1 baseball playoffs is a tribute to the players and Coach Matt La Belle.

The Pioneers won the Division 1 title in 2008, beating Long Beach Wilson in the final, and those two teams face off Friday at Blair Field in a quarterfinal game.

Simi Valley’s pitching plans have been uncertain, and even Thursday, when asked who would start on the mound, La Belle said, ‘I really don’t know.’

But the Pioneers are finding ways to win. They upset El Toro, 4-2, on Tuesday, and they have two standout players in junior shortstop Cody Ramer and junior outfielder Nick Vigo.
