I’m sure there are lots of fans from North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake who are already planning a weekend trip to Santa Barbara, because that’s where the Wolverines will be playing their Division 2 quarterfinal playoff game.

We’ll finally get answered the question, ‘Can Harvard-Westlake win a playoff game without Lucas Giolito on the mound?’

‘Friday will be that day,’ Coach Matt LaCour said.

Giolito has thrown 13 shutout innings in the playoffs, including a no-hitter on Tuesday. Now the ball will be handed to freshman Jack Flaherty, who’s expected to face Santa Barbara ace Danny Zandona, who’s 9-1.

‘I like Jack,’ LaCour said. ‘He’ll handle everything just fine.’

The big surprise in Division 2 is that Harvard-Westlake is the only remaining Mission League team. Chaminade, Alemany and Sherman Oaks Notre Dame were all eliminated on Tuesday.
