Before the season, West Hills Chaminade and Mission Hills Alemany were the clear favorites to win the Mission League based on their many returning players.

So how did North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake come out of nowhere to take the title? Its young players got better and better.

Sophomore catcher Arden Pabst is going to be able to pick any college he wants in 2013. He’s batting .434 with 33 hits, 11 doubles and 28 RBIs.

Freshman outfielder-pitcher Jack Flaherty is living up to expectations and more. He’s batting .309 with 19 RBIs and is 6-1 on the mound with a 1.92 ERA.

Junior pitcher Lucas Giolito is pitching like an ace. He’s 7-0 with a 1.22 ERA. Senior pitcher Connor Dillman is 4-0 with a 1.29 ERA and four saves.

I expect a Mission League team to win the Southern Section Division 2 title, and right now, Harvard-Westlake is the hottest of the teams.
