Gardena Serra is no longer just known as a football school. The Cavaliers upset No. 1-seeded Riverside Woodcrest Christian, 10-5, in a Southern Section Division 5 second-round baseball playoff game.
Sophomore Dominic Smith hit a three-run home run and finished with three hits. Junior Ron Miller also had three hits.
Woodcrest Christian, the defending Division 5 champion, dropped to 21-3.
‘I told everybody Serra is a sleeper,’ said L.A. Cathedral Coach Scott Pearson, whose team beat Serra three times in the Camino Real League.
