Baseball: Gardena Serra stuns No. 1 Woodcrest Christian
Gardena Serra is no longer just known as a football school. The Cavaliers upset No. 1-seeded Riverside Woodcrest Christian, 10-5, in a Southern Section Division 5 second-round baseball playoff game.
Sophomore Dominic Smith hit a three-run home run and finished with three hits. Junior Ron Miller also had three hits.
Woodcrest Christian, the defending Division 5 champion, dropped to 21-3.
"I told everybody Serra is a sleeper," said L.A. Cathedral Coach Scott Pearson, whose team beat Serra three times in the Camino Real League.
-- Eric Sondheimer

@Phantom Fan Serra(Gardena) is over 15 miles from Poly(Long Beach) so that isn't true about if they dont go to Poly they go to Serra.Secondly, I think you guys are offering everybody money, who's half-way athletic, to come to your school to play sports regardless of grades. So, I would say Cathedral is very easy to get into. Stop hatin because Serra is academically and athletically superior to Cathedral.

Congrats Serra Baseball!!!! I just wish we get the same love from all the coaches in the Camino Real for league MVP. Second year in a row someone with weaker stats than Dominic has claimed MVP. He's batting .576 and an ace pitcher. Their is no justification but ole Baseball's institutionalized racisim rule.

Phantom Crusader,
Ease up on ES. He never said HE missed the fact that Serra won those other titles, he said EVERYONE ELSE missed it. Including me, because 1) no one keeps track of track (I'm falling asleep just writing about this) and 2) Serra's scorekeeper cheated in basketball re: fouls so people are starting to just tune out when they see the Serra except people tune back in when they see SERRA FOOTBALL.
Get off of ES's jock!
Plus... Div.5 baseball sux.

The Cathedral Phantoms are the Back to Back Camino Real league Champions. They defeated serra Three times in league play. Serra is good in all sports because they let anybody into that school. It's easy and the location where if they don't go to poly, they go to serra.

Mr. Sondheimer: "Gardena Serra is no longer just a football school." REALLY? They won state titles in basketball, track and football - in a single year (2010)! Or did you miss that?

That's why they play the game..Rankings mean nothing at this time of year..Only the strong move on (and the teams with a couple of stud pitchers/hitters)...

ES, do you know why Simi Valley high school top starting pitcher was removed from their roster just before the playoffs? Kudos to them as they're still alive and playing as a team.
