If you never heard of Raul Camas before this season, you aren’t alone. The sophomore outfielder started the year on the Chatsworth junior varsity team.

But he has become one of the most successful hitters for the top-seeded Chancellors (23-5), who play Birmingham in a City Section Divsion I semifinal game on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at USC.

He’s batting .417 with 25 hits, 20 RBIs and two home runs.

What’s so important about Camas’ emergence is that he becomes another tough out in Chatsworth’s lineup besides returning All-City players Aaron Brown and Steven Karkenny.

Birmingham is expected to use Kevin Torres on the mound. Torres was an All-City outfielder last season who has started to pitch well in the playoffs.

But if Camas continues to hit, the Chancellors are going to be in good shape to deliver a ninth City title for Coach Tom Meusborn.
