Track and field: Friday’s top performers at the Arcadia Invitational

The Arcadia Invitational got off to a fast start on Friday. Here are some highlights heading into Saturday’s portion of the meet:

-- Gardena Serra proved it’s just as a fast on the track as they are on the football field. Let by USC-bound wide receiver and sprint specialist George Farmer, the Cavaliers won the boys’ 800-meter sprint medley, posting the nation’s second fastest time in 1 minute, 32.84 seconds.

-- Not to be outdone, Oaks Christian posted the second-fastest time in the nation in the girls’ 800 sprint medley, finishing first in 1:46.77.

-- Redondo posted a state-leading time of 7:55.01 in the boys’ 4X800 relay.

-- Harvard-Westlake won the girls’ 1,600 sprint medley in 3:59.75, the fastest outdoor time in the nation this year, beating second-place Mater Dei by nearly 10 seconds.

-- Loyola won the much-anticipated boys’ 4X1600, beating Dana Hills by just over a second in a time of 17:24.38. Trabuco Hills finished third.
