Baseball: El Toro’s Mundell throws no-hitter

Fresno State-bound Garrett Mundell, a 6-foot-6 senior at Lake Forest El Toro, struck out 11, walked one and threw a no-hitter on Monday to defeat Woods Cross (Utah), 10-0, in the Anaheim Lions tournament. He is 4-0 on the season.

Grant Davis had three hits in JSerra’s 11-1 win over Vista del Lago. Trevor Charpie allowed three hits in six shutout innings. Mira Costa defeated Orange Lutheran, 13-2. West Ranch defeated Orange Lutheran, 8-3, with Jake Miura getting two hits and four RBIs.

In the Babe Herman tournament, Elliot Surrey went three for three with four RBIs and Ted Boeke hit two doubles to lead Crescenta Valley (11-1) past Oak Park, 15-2.

Luke Eubank, a junior pitcher, came through with a five-hit shutout for Newbury Park in a makeup Marmonte League game, striking out six and walking none in a 7-0 victory over Moorpark. He beat Moorpark ace Matt Higginbotham. Agoura defeated Thousand Oaks, 16-2. Sam Gerald had three hits and three RBIs.

Palm Desert defeated Diamond Ranch, 4-1, in the OC Nissan tournament. Jono Tellier threw six innings, striking out six with no walks. Scott Burcham went three for three. It was the 450th career coaching victory for Darol Salazar.

Newhall Hart (12-2) rallied for a 5-4 win over Murrieta Valley, scoring five runs in the sixth. Alex Tenorio had an RBI triple and Luke Persico had two hits. Hart and Palm Desert play Tuesday in a semifinal game.

Santa Clarita Golden Valley defeated El Centro Central, 11-1, in the Coachella Valley tournament. Sophomore Riley Sherwood allowed three hits in six innings. Ryan Alvarez and Anthony San Miguel had two hits apiece.

San Fernando (13-2) defeated Panorama, 23-0, in five innings. Kevin Martinez was three for three.

In an East Valley League game, Arleta defeated Grant, 12-0. Johnny Munoz allowed four hits in five innings. Miguel Perez had a home run and four RBIs. In the Valley League, Fulton defeated East Valley, 17-5. Bryan Thang had four hits, including two inside-the-park home runs.

In the Camino Real League, L.A. Cathedral defeated Gardena Serra, 7-1, in a battle for first place. Sergio Luna struck out 10. Freshman Mike Palos had two hits. Cathedral (13-2, 4-0) has won 11 consecutive games.
