Baseball: Wallace Gonzalez leads Bishop Amat into semifinals

Wallace Gonzalez went four for four with six RBIs, including a home run, to help La Puente Bishop Amat defeat Mountain View St. Francis, 11-3, on Tuesday in a quarterfinal game of the Hard 9 National Classic.

Bishop Amat (18-2) will play in Wednesday’s 4:30 p.m. semifinals at Cal State Fullerton against either Utah Bingham or El Capitan. The other semifinal at 7 p.m. at Fullerton will match Florida IMG and Anaheim Esperanza.

IMG defeated West Hills Chaminade, 3-2. Esperanza defeated Clovis West, 9-4.

In consolation games, Angel Rodriguez struck out eight in Chatsworth’s 1-0 victory over Memphis Christian Brothers. Alemany defeated El Dorado, 2-0, behind Cody Thompson, who threw a four-hitter. Corey Sims had two hits.
