If you’ve never seen a volleyball match between Los Angeles Loyola and Manhattan Beach Mira Costa, I recommend you go to their match on Friday night at 7 o’clock at Loyola Marymount. It’s annually one of the best sporting events of the school year for any sport.

The intensity of the players and their crazy fans is something to see.

Mira Costa is ranked No. 1 in Southern Section Division 1. Loyola is No. 3. Loyola is the defending Division 1 champion, led by USC-bound Robert Feathers. Between the two schools, they’ve won 17 Southern Section championships.

Half of Loyola’s team lives in Manhattan Beach, so it’s for bragging rights in the South Bay. But more important, the quality of volleyball is second to none in high school sports.
