Girls’ basketball: Orange Lutheran wins 3A title

It was a memorable night for Orange Lutheran and its boisterous fans.

Two hours after the boys’ team won the 4AA title, the girls’ squad got in a little celebrating of its own after pulling away in the second half for a convincing 59-42 victory over Bonita in the Southern Section Division 3A championship game at the Anaheim Convention Center.

The top-seeded Lancers (25-6) got 23 points from senior guard Natalie Luzar, sophomore center Sydney Jacobs had 12 points and senior guard Krissy Karr added eight and three assists for Orange Lutheran, which led led 24-21 at halftime and 44-34 after three quarters.

Senior guard Taylor Anderson had 18 points and 12 rebounds, freshman guard Nikki Wheatley had 11 points and junior forward Brianna Kennedy added six points and eight rebounds for the second-seeded Bearcats (28-3), who shot 30.2% from the field and 22.2% from three-point range.

The total attendance for Wednesday’’s four Southern Section final games was 3,986.
