Girls’ basketball: Mater Dei trails 16-8 after 1st quarter

Despite playing its worst quarter of the season, Mater Dei is within single digits of Berkeley in the state Division I final at Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento.

The Monarchs trailed by 12 points with 1:06 to go but scored the last two baskets to pull within 16-8.

Elisha Davis has five points for Berkeley, which opened the game on a 7-0 run. Kiki Alofaituli and Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis have three points apiece for Mater Dei.
