There’s big news out of Los Angeles Loyola. Steve Grady, who coached the Cubs for 29 years and won two Southern Section Division I titles before retiring after the 2004 season, has joined Mike Christensen’s staff as a full-time assistant coach in charge of running backs and quarterbacks.

The last time Grady was a coach, Christensen was at Lakewood and handing Grady a playoff defeat.

‘He’s doing terrific,’ Christensen said. ‘I think he’s rejuvenated. I know he has a lot left.’

Grady had a 269-77-6 record at Loyola, and his teams made it to the playoff quarterfinals for 19 consecutive years.

He’ll spice up the sideline during games and add energy to practices at a minimum.
