Westlake Village Westlake, West Hills Chaminade, Encino Crespi and Manhattan Beach Mira Costa competed in a seven-on-seven passing competition on Saturday.

Westlake Coach Jim Benkert said the athleticism of Crespi and Chaminade was impressive.

‘They’re going to be good,’ Benkert said.

Crespi, however, struggled at the quarterback position. The Celts are not close to figuring out who’s going to be the quarterback.

‘We’ve got a lot of work to do,’ Crespi Coach Jon Mack said. ‘I’m not worried. It’s March.’

That’s the dilemma in playing seven-on-seven competitions. People get to see what you look like, and if you struggle, there’s worry. But, as Mack said, it’s a little early to be concerned. The Celts are trying out a bunch of young, inexperienced players, so we’ll see how they look late in the summer.
