Baseball: Tyler Brashears lifts El Toro to victory

Tyler Brashears struck out six and allowed five hits to lead Lake Forest El Toro past Mission Viejo Capistrano Valley, 3-1, on Monday in a South Coast League game.

Brashears improved to 3-0. El Toro (6-3-1, 1-0-1) got a double and two RBIs from Dan James. Mitchell Tolman added two hits.

In a Marmonte League game, Simi Valley Royal defeated Newbury Park, 7-4, with Ryan Tinkham contributing three hits. Justin Greco and Atherton Kniseley hit home runs. Moorpark defeated Thousand Oaks, 5-1. Matt Higginbotham threw a four-hitter, striking out eight and walking one. Spencer Dubois had three hits.

In the Mission League, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame (10-3, 3-1) defeated Loyola, 3-1. Matt Lathuras and Peyton Milone each had two RBIs. Lathuras also got the save. Chaminade (8-2, 5-0) defeated Crespi, 4-1, in nine innings. Mathew Troupe struck out six in two innings, giving him 20 strikeouts in nine innings against the Celts this season.

In the Pacific League, Crescenta Valley (7-1) defeated Glendale Hoover, 7-0. Kyle Pomeroy and Ted Boeke combined for the shutout. Cole Currie, Elliot Surrey and Troy Mulcahey hit home runs.

In the Southwestern League, Vista Murrieta improved to 11-1 overall with a 1-0 win over Temecula Chaparral. Tyler Russell (4-0) threw a three-hitter.

In Arizona, North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake was beaten by Regis Jesuit, 10-2.
