A year ago, West Hills Chaminade was on the verge of winning the Mission League championship. Then Mission Hills Alemany swept the Eagles in the final week of the season, including a 1-0 victory in which pitcher Cody Thompson delivered a crushing blow.

On Tuesday, Chaminade (4-2) got its revenge. Mathew Troupe struck out 10 and Brandon Rapaport and Cole Rutherford each hit home runs in a 2-0 victory over Alemany and Thompson in the Mission League opener at Chaminade.

Troupe closed with a flourish, striking out the final four batters, including Anthony Esparza with two outs and runners on second and third in the eighth.

Alemany (4-2), ranked No. 1 in Southern Section Division 2, was limited to three hits, two by the red-hot Corey Sims, who is 13 for 19 on the season. Chaminade’s hitting attack showed signs of life, with Rutherford, a 6-foot-4 sophomore, also contributing a triple besides his home run.
